Barbara Lianne Ashley, 82, a resident of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family the morning of Dec. 10, 2017. She was born to Howard and Alpha (Cressman) Orweller on May 10, 1935.
She graduated from Rodney B Wilson High School in 1953. After high school she worked at Rexall Drugstore in St. Johns. Barbara married Eugene Ashley on May, 29, 1954 in St. Johns. She later worked at Sears for many years before her retirement.
Barbara had many interests throughout her life, which included playing the organ at church when she was younger. She also enjoyed frequenting garage sales, and she loved traveling. Barbara spent many winters in Hawaii. She also enjoyed visiting family in Alaska.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Eugene; and sons, Glenn (Leanna) Ashley, Mark (Gayle) Ashley, Stuart (Tami) Ashley and Andrew (Gail) Ashley. She is also survived by her three sisters, Leona (Bill) Neilson, Janet (Jack) Smith and Darlene (Darrell) Buck; nieces; nephews; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Douglas Orweller; and a son, Vernon Ashley.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at East Bay Calvary Church in Traverse City. Pastor Brian Conover will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with Barbara's family at the church on Thursday starting at 11 a.m.
