Barbara's Story

Barbara Louise Boughner Martin, 90, of Key West, Florida, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 at Lower Keys Medical Center, Key West, Florida. She was born on Aug. 12, 1926 in Highland Park to the late Charles Boughner, of Canada, and Helen Meyer Boughner, of Grand Rapids.
Barbara received a bachelor's degree from Hillsdale College. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and served as president of her chapter.
Barbara had a 30-year career working as a social worker for the Oakland County Court in Michigan.
She was a board member of the Key West, Florida, library. Barbara volunteered at the Botanical Gardens. She loved and enjoyed her tennis group in Key West.
Barbara was an avid reader, an active Mah Jong player and enjoyed knitting and needle point.
Barbara and her husband have been visiting Key West since 1959 and residents since 1981. Their summers were spent in Eastport.
Surviving is her husband for over 66 years, Charles Earl Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, at 11 a.m., with the family receiving friends starting at 10:30 p.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township. A light luncheon will follow at Torch Lake Cafe.
