Bernard A. Benton Jr.

Bernard Albert "Bud" Benton Jr., age 88, of Kingsley, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2019 at his home. Bernard was born on Sept. 18, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, to Bernard and Gertrude (Schram) Benton.
He attended Chicago schools and in the 1940s moved to Kingsley with his family.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He served nine years in the service and then returned to Kingsley.
He married the former Barbara Morgan on June 8, 1951 in Kingsley and made this their home.
Bud was a very hardworking individual who provided for his family. It was not uncommon for him to have two or three jobs at a time. He was employed with Tannehill & DeYoung Company out of Traverse City for over 10 years as well as owning his own milk route in Kingsley. He was a zoning administrator and a 20-plus-year volunteer firefighter for Paradise Township.
He loved to spend time outdoors planting trees, growing crops for the deer and birds and also enjoyed fly-fishing, bowling and golfing.
He is remembered by his family as a very caring, loving, happy person and all around good guy. His wife remembers him simply for being "precious."
Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Margaret (Roger) Miller and Dale (Pamela) Benton; and grandchildren, Billy Ray (Shari) Wooten, Logan Benton, Lexie (Jared) Case and Loran and Lacey Benton. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Erin, Gretchen, Willis and Jay.
