Bernice Sy, 77, of Kalkaska, passed away on Feb. 28, 2018 at her daughter's home in Copperas Cove, Texas. She was born to the late Ally and Stella (Kolinski) Awad on Aug. 11, 1940 in Saginaw.
Bernice loved the simple things in life; especially spending time with her family, jigsaw puzzles, and going to the casino. She married her soul mate, John Sy on Aug. 3, 1963 and together they moved to Kalkaska in 1969. She was a devoted wife and mother, and was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan.
Bernice is survived by her children, Kimberly (John) Reed, of Copperas Cove, Texas, John E. (Rebecca) Sy, of Noblesville, Indiana and Cindy Lu Sy, of Mesick; grandchildren, Jamie, Jacob, Jessica, Alyshia and Mason; and her brothers, Abraham (Lou) Awad and Joseph (Sheila) Awad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, John Sy; sister, Mary Zedaker; and brothers, Samuel and Omar Awad.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Kalkaska Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1 p.m., final visitation beginning at noon, in the Chapel of Kalkaska Funeral Home. Pastor Eric Black of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate the service. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Bernice's memory to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
