Bruce's Story

Text size

Bruce Jeffrey Ruginis, 61, of Manton, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 12, 2017 at Munson Hospital Cadillac. Bruce was born to Marilyn (Caramagno) and William Ruginis on Oct. 9, 1955 in Fairbanks, Alaska. He spent his early childhood in the Detroit area, spending a lot of his time working with his grandfather, Joseph at his business in the Detroit region. His family relocated to northern Michigan in his teen years and eventually he made Manton his home.
Bruce was very passionate about his work. He had a love and respect for trapping and hunting that led to a business as a fur buyer. He also had a great interest in history and antiques, which led to opening an antique shop. Bruce had an amazing talent for restoring antique furniture. He was a perfectionist in his work about bringing furniture back to life. Bruce liked to be busy, and he was known to have another job or two on top of his businesses.
Bruce was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing games with his children and talking about history with them. He enjoyed gardening and canning and would grow a bountiful garden every year. He also had a love for cats and always at least had one cat who found its way to him.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Pat Ruginis, of Manton; special friend, JoLynn, of Manton; son, Bruce Abshire, of Traverse City; daughters, Angel (Nick) Abshire Shadoff, of Delton, Lauri (Aaron) Dontje, of Manton, Kristy Morgan, of Manton; sisters, Renee (Daryl) Case, of Kingsley, Lisa (Clair Horrigan) Ruginis; brother, Roger (Laura) Ruginis, of Kalkaska; and stepfather, William Abshire, of Kalkaska. Bruce is also survived by five grandchildren, Autumn, Gable, Evelyn, Elouise, and Allison; his uncle, Steve Caramagno; three nephews; and a niece.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 in the Chapel of Kalkaska Funeral Home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
