Catheryn's Story

Text size

Catheryn Ann Boehm (nee Judd), of Beulah, quietly passed away on Feb. 6, 2018 at home with her family by her side. She was born on Oct. 13, 1934 in Juddville to Walter and Bertha (Maves) Judd.
Catheryn grew up on a farm and understood the meaning of hard work. Since a young age she was expected to help with chores, from helping with the horses and dogs, to picking ripened vegetables from the family garden. She had wonderful memories of the farm and especially remembered the food and her mom's homemade breads, donuts and filled cookies. Catheryn oversaw delivering the eggs her mom would sell to make a little extra money.
She was the valedictorian, class of 1953, at Owosso High School.
The following year on Aug. 7, 1954 she married James Boehm, and together they raised two children, Robert and Kristee. She raised their children with patience, discipline and humility. She was an educator at heart. She was kind, soft-spoken and had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.
While raising a family she went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Michigan State University. During her career she worked in different areas of nursing, from public health, nurse educator, breast screening and home health.
Catheryn was known as a kind, generous, intelligent woman who inspired people with her faith and hope in God. She had as much impact as a minister's wife, oftentimes moving under the radar, loving the church and its people and creating a foundation upon which a thriving church can build. She was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church.
In this ever-changing world of technology Catheryn was proud of the fact that she had learned how to use a computer.
Catheryn embraced these words she read at her father's funeral, "The acceptance of life's inevitable changes and uncertainties, and the strength that Daddy lived by were shown again in his death ... a gentle, quiet, peace filled passing." Catheryn also showed dignity and strength in her most difficult times. Her father would have been proud.
She is survived by a loving husband of 63 years, James; two children, Robert (Michell) Boehm and Kristee Boehm; four grand-angels who stole her heart, Alejandro and Leonardo Malavet and Hadley and Dulcee Boehm.
Friends may visit Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Jowett Family Funeral Home in Benzonia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Frankfort United Methodist Church, with Pastor Barb Fay officiating. Burial will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery.
Contributions may be given to the Frankfort United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
