Cecilia "Sis" Trottier Leake, of Bay Ridge Community in Traverse City, passed away on Aug. 19 at the age of 91 years.
Sis was born April 21, 1926 and was a graduate of Nashua High School in New Hampshire. In 1950 Sis married Charlie Leake and eventually settled down in Deerfield, Illinois, where they raised four sons.
During the years from 1954 to 1970 Sis and Charlie ran a boys camp named Camp Kechuwa in Michigamme in the Upper Peninsula.
Sis' passion in life was to help others in need. She constantly volunteered in Traverse City, feeding the homeless, fixing Thanksgiving dinners, the State Theatre, the Cherry Festival, Interlochen events, the Opera House, the Newcomers group and various other venues across Traverse City, and before that, Hendersonville, North Carolina. Sis' community outreach was like no other, and one could always count on her to help when help was needed. The community will miss this strong and giving person and her spirit and drive will remain a strong influence on many of the people that she touched.
Sis was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; her sister, Gabrielle; and her brother, Leon.
Sis is survived by her four sons and their wives, Charlie and Donna Leake, of Claremore, Oklahoma, Donald and Julia Leake, of Michigamme, Jeffrey and Susan Leake, of Traverse City, and Jerry and Lisa Leake, of Randolph, Massachusetts. Sis leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Sis will be held at the Saint Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City on Sept. 15 and 16. Friday, Sept. 15, will be visitation with the family from 6 to 9 p.m., with dessert and coffee. The memorial service will take place at 11 a.m., with viewing from 10 a.m., and a lunch reception following, on Saturday, Sept. 16. Father Ken will preside.
