Charles "Chuck" Henry VanNorwick, age 89, of Traverse City, died Feb. 17, 2018. He was born on Oct. 8, 1928 in Jackson to Edwin and Rhea (Henry) VanNorwick.
He married Shirley Ann Somers in Traverse City on Feb. 11, 1978.
A World War II Navy veteran, Chuck was a sales rep for American Spring & Wire in Detroit and Chicago; then after moving to his beloved Northern Michigan during the '70s, he opened VanNorwick's Clothing Store in Traverse City.
A member of the Traverse City Power Squadron, Chuck enjoyed spending time on the waters of Glen Lake and Lake Michigan. He also practiced drawing and oftentimes became immersed in the intense study of the design, style and performance of automobiles.
Charles is survived by his wife, Shirley; ex-wife, Carolyn Roesner; children, A. Scott (Cathy) VanNorwick, Amy (Ron) Christy and Janie James; grandchildren, Alex and Ellen Hyde and Aaron Bischoff.
He was preceded in death by brother, H. Scott VanNorwick; and sister, Mary Jane (Gene) Reed.
