Darlene Ann (Gutzka) Treadwell passed on to eternal life Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018. She was born at the Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City Feb. 14, 1944 to Ernest and Beatta (Riggs) Gutzka.
Following graduation from Traverse City High School, Dar attended nursing school and became an licensed practical nurse. She was a nurse for 40 years.
Dar met John Treadwell, and they married July 13, 1968.
Dar is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Heidi (Mac) McAdams and Kelly (Randy) Stockfisch; and five grandchildren, Kerri and Mitch McAdams, Chase, Ella and Kelsey Stockfisch, of Traverse City. She is also survived by her siblings, Sonny (Carol) Gutzka, Marcia Lautner and Ernie (Vivian) Gutzka; cousin, Liz Keaton, of Traverse City; and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Dar was always quick to add one more to a gathering and call them family or friend. She considered close friends and co-workers part of her family. Dar was "Aunt Dar" to many.
Dar was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bonnie and Penny; brother-in-law, Ron; infant nephew, Jeff Lautner; and infant grandson, John Stockfisch.
Dar enjoyed her many years as a 4-H leader, gardener, and reading and cheering at her grandkids' events.
A celebration of life will be held at Twin Lakes Gilbert Lodge on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m. Dar wanted all who knew her to gather, share stories and rejoice. Please bring a favorite memory or story.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.
Cremation has taken place. It was Dar's wish to spend eternal life as a beach bum and to remind everyone to live life with love, luck and laughter.
