Darlene's Story

Text size

Darlene Ann Wunchel, 81, of Frankfort, died Feb. 18, 2017 at Paul Oliver Living and Rehab.
Darlene was a wonderful cook, making everything from scratch. She would rise daily at 4 a.m. to start baking breads, cookies, lunches and dinners for her family.
She was also a seamstress, making clothes for her children through the years. She made her grandchildren's dolls, baby quilts, Care Bears and all kinds of stuffed animals.
She loved to fish at Arcadia and Bear Lake, but she especially enjoyed fishing for walleye on Upper Herring Lake. Darlene enjoyed taking care of her flower and vegetable garden. Dad would take her out to dry hill to pick asparagus every spring. Also, in the spring she would find dark and white morels and tell us she could smell them. She loved wildlife where she lived, watching and feeding the deer, birds and foxes. Darlene enjoyed long walks in the woods and was inspired to paint the most beautiful paintings. She loved to dance and her favorite dance was the "mashed potatoes."
Darlene loved the Lord and was an avid reader of the Bible, reading for hours. She will be loved and missed forever.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Joseph Wunchel Sr.; children, Deborah Joan Watch, Dawn Marie (Lee) Plant, Darla Ann (David) Reynolds, Gordon Joseph Wunchel Jr. and Dominic Peter (Vicky); grandchildren, Heather (Rick) Krok, Homer Grant (Sheila) Campbell IV, David J. (Angela) Reynolds Jr., Crystal (James) Larson, Michelle (Andy), Paul Reynolds, Brandon Plant and Christine Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Isaac Charles Larson, Ethan Campbell, Alyssa Marie Larson, Brooke Elizabeth Campbell, Brandon, Mason and Emily.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Herring Lake Baptist Church, with Pastor Bruce Davideit officiating. Burial will be in Gilmore Township Cemetery.
