David E. Barnes, 85, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully June 9, 2018 at Munson Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
David was born to Earl and Martha Barnes on Jan. 1, 1933 in Newark, Ohio. On Feb. 1, 1952 he married Barbara Westbrook in Mt. Pleasant, where they lived until moving to Traverse City in 1978. He and his wife, Barbara, raised five children.
Following graduation from high school David worked for Roosevelt Refinery and later in furniture sales in Mt. Pleasant. After moving to Traverse City David worked briefly in real estate.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Devon (Terry), of North Carolina, Mitchell, of Traverse City, Dan (Mary), of Williamsburg, and Bill, of Traverse City; and daughter, Holly (Gordon), of Grand Rapids.
David was known for his wit and love of a good story. He was an avid sports fan and longtime fan of the Detroit Tigers.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
