Dorothy's Story

Text size

Dorothy Jean Beers peacefully passed away after a very brief illness while surrounded by her children at Munson Medical Center on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.
The love of her life, John, had passed away May 6, 2014. John and Dorothy celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary with the annual family tradition known as "The John & Dorothy Beers Anniversary Pub Crawl" in November 2013 in Traverse City.
John and Dorothy raised their seven children downstate in Dearborn, where John retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1986. The couple moved to Traverse City in 1990, enjoying the relaxed and laid back life style, especially the restaurants and pubs. An ideal day for Dorothy would include shopping and a stroll downtown, ending with a meal or beverage at their favorite Traverse City restaurant, Amical.
Having seven children, 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Dorothy was constantly busy entertaining or traveling to family celebrations, graduations, weddings and baby showers. The Beers' children are oldest son, John Beers Jr. (Rory), of South Haven, oldest daughter, Sue Jaquette (Tom), of Olivet, Patty Gregory (Russ), of Northville, Claudia Feeny (Paul), of Charlotte, Jeff Beers, of Charlotte, Jay Beers (Tracy), of Traverse City, and Kris Beers (Jennifer), of Livonia.
A memorial service honoring Dorothy will take place at 3 p.m., with visitation starting at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Pastor Chad Oyer will officiate.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Kiwanis Club of Traverse City, attention secretary, Kiwanis Club of Traverse City Foundation, PO Box 864, Traverse City, MI 49685.
