Douglas Lee Jones, 75, of Traverse City, previously from Vicksburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017. Doug was born in Mason to Ileen (Goen) Cleveland and Douglas F. Jones.
Doug lived most of his life in Vicksburg with his wife, Sylvia (Cortez) Jones, who preceded him in death. Also, he was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Jones; mother, Ileen Cleveland; stepfather, Mryon Cleveland; his stepdaughter, Dana (Hixson) Ball; and first wife, Barbara (Rose) Jones.
Doug was a very quick witted and intelligent man who loved the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. He also enjoyed reading and watching all the current movies with a cocktail in hand, preferably Black Velvet and diet Dr. Pepper.
He worked at Green Bay Packaging in Kalamazoo for over 30 years and was very loyal to his union.
Doug is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Meredith and Dan Hansen, Conway and Maria Jones, Kelly and Russ Madsen, Ronald Jones, Christopher Jones, Tammy and Bruce Binker and Emily and Roy Rolin; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, David Cleveland and wife, Sandy, John Cleveland and wife, Kathleen, and Tom Cleveland and wife, Valerie. He had many nieces and nephews.
Doug's memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10, at Life Story Funeral Home, 752 Munson Ave., Traverse City. The family will greet friends starting at 1:30 p.m. A light reception will continue after the memorial service.
