Dr. Jean's Story
Dr. Jean Frances Kozachik, 59, of Portland, formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 after a courageous battle fighting numerous illnesses. She was born on Feb. 19, 1958 in Lansing to the late Martin and Mary Ann (Nichels) Kozachik.
Jean graduated from Portland High School. She received her doctorate from Michigan State University.
In 1987 Jean served her residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was a physician at Munson Medical Center and an Urgent Care doctor for many years. Jean later became a partner in Bay Area Family Care. She was overly caring, hardworking and very proud of her work with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
She had a deep faith and was a member of First Congregational Church.
Jean loved Traverse City, spending time on West Bay boating, water skiing or at the beach hunting for Petoskey stones. She enjoyed reading, downhill skiing and fitness. Above all, spending time with her family was her greatest joy.
Jean is survived by her loving family; two sons and a daughter, Jim (Kiley) Hilligan, Kyle Dotterrer and Devon Dotterrer; two grandsons, Hunter and Connor Hilligan; three brothers and two sisters, Ken (Barbara) Kozachik, Carol Delaney, David Kozachik, Phillip Kozachik and Eileen Canon. Also surviving are nieces and nephews; as well as two loving dogs, Jazzy and Grissom.
Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Kozachik; and a sister-in-law, Gerri Lynn Kozachik.
