Elizabeth 'Betty''s Story
Elizabeth "Betty" Gould, 101, of Empire, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at her home with her loving family at her side. Elizabeth was born April 14, 1916, in Lackawanna, New York, to the late Michael and Elizabeth (Blahota) Koczon.
A homemaker, Elizabeth enjoyed gardening (roses and orchids), reading, sewing and playing cards with friends. Tennis was a life-long love, playing in the National Senior Olympics at age 76. A nature-lover, she enjoyed hiking, camping and bird watching. She instilled the love of music in her children. Spending time with family brought Betty great joy.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Ballmer, of Empire and Marilyn Gould, of Anchorage, Alaska; her son, William Jay (Martha) Gould, of Miami, Florida; brother, William (Janet) Koczon, of Fort Mojave, Arizona; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Henry in 1986; and sisters, Helen, Mary, Ann, Irene; and brother, Michael.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Church in Empire, with a visitation held at 10 a.m.
Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the Glen Lake Community Library.
