Elizabeth Ann Haugen, 51, passed away on March 17, 2017 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City from stage IV metastatic cancer with her husband, Michael, and son, David, at her side. She was born on Aug. 27, 1965 in Detroit to John and Jan Blotsky.
Elizabeth grew up in Detroit. She graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School in Detroit. After high school she attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business accounting in 1989. She went on to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she received a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, in 1995.
She was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1996 and practiced law in her private practice, was an assistant prosecutor and for the past 17 years was working in Traverse City as an administrative law judge for the State of Michigan.
Elizabeth married Michael Haugen in 2013 in Charlevoix. They met five years ago and were happily married for three-plus years.
Elizabeth enjoyed walking her dogs, working out, backpacking, camping, conversation, hunting, fishing, guns, gardening and restoring/recycling campers, furniture and pallets.
Elizabeth is survived by her spouse, Michael, of Benzonia; her daughter, Sarah Brown and husband, of N. Chili, New York; son, David Brown, of Lansing; her brother, Don Blotsky, of Macomb; her grandchildren, Isaac, Marcus and Aliza; and her nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jan Blotsky.
Elizabeth will remain in our memories forever and be sadly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
