Eugene J. Thomas, 79, passed away Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at the Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility with his loving family at his side. Eugene was born in Hulbert to the late Paul and Julia (Brown) Thomas on Nov. 20, 1937.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, where he met and married Sophie, his wife of 56 years; she preceded him in death.
Eugene and Sophie were blessed with five children who survive them, Schane "Mike" Thomas, of Williamsburg, Vern Thomas, of Rapid City, Lydia "Heidi" Thomas, of Rapid City, Scott Thomas and Jon, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Christiane "Chrissy" (Joe) Budrow, of Higgins Lake. He is survived by grandchildren, Jacob and Mattelin Budrow. Eugene is also survived by his sister, Pat (George) Gebo, of Utica; and his brother, Shane Thomas, of Warren.
Eugene's greatest passion was his life's work as a finish carpenter and master woodworker. In addition to his family, he also loved hunting and being in the outdoors.
A family gathering in Eugene's honor will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been made by the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home, our family serving your family.
