Evelyn Audry Russell Weaver, age 88, passed on to her savior's arms on Jan. 20, 2018.
Born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on July 21, 1929, she married Richard Weaver in 1947. He preceded her in death in 2006 after 58 years of marriage. Together they had six children. Two died in infancy.
Their remaining children are Linda Freeman, of Manistee, Robert, of Houston, Texas, Randy, of Traverse City, and Diane Reed, of Manistee. She leaves 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Norma Brown, of Grass Valley, California, June Belledin, of Auburn, California; and a brother, George Russell, of Mishawaka, Indiana.
Richard and Evelyn moved from Mishawaka, Indiana, to Benzie County in 1970. Together they built a home on the Betsie River and had many happy years there. They moved to Texas for a few years before returning to the Traverse City area for retirement.
Evelyn worked with her daughter, Linda, at her day care in Traverse City and loved teaching the children.
She had many hobbies and enjoyed crafts from crocheting, sewing and flower arrangements. While she enjoyed camping and fishing, she especially enjoyed mushroom hunting each year. She looked forward to yard sales and her daily pleasures were reading the Bible and Christian romance novels. It was always a joy to visit with her family and travel with them.
Her Christian beliefs, living and being involved in her church gave her happiness, peace and comfort.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 3, 2018, at 1 p.m., at the Bayshore Resort, 833 E. Front St., Conference Room 2, Traverse City, MI 49686.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
