A man of many talents, Gary was a lifelong learner, gardener, craftsman and conservationist. "Water what you want to grow" was his mantra. He followed that philosophy in his gardens and in the many relationships he nurtured and enjoyed throughout his life and career in the auto industry. He was always the "go-to" guy - present and in the moment for his family and friends. He appreciated and supported all forms of art and music.
Gary loved his life and was loved by his family, including his wife, Donna Stein-Harris; children, Tuttie (Jim) Gullett, Andy Harris, Vicky Palacios and Emily (Tony) Nenortas; stepchildren, Sandra Stein (Matt Lambiase), Jay Stein (Rocio Gonzalez) and Karen Stein; grandchildren, Tanner (Katie), Austin, Tayla, Jake, Andrew, Lexie, Rebecca, Sofia and Ravi; great-granddaughter, Addalyn; sisters, Roberta Sherman (Dwayne), Bonnie Knapp (Leroy, deceased) and Doreen Johnson (deceased); and his old pal, Jackson.
Gary wanted donations made in his name to be given to the donor's charity of choice. "Water what 'you' want to grow."
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Grand Traverse, 6726 Center Road, Traverse City.
