Geoffrey Douglas Johnson passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at the age of 86 while surrounded by his loving wife and family at his home in Grand Rapids.
Geoffrey was born in Norfolk County, England, and immigrated to the United States after World War II with his mother, Doreen Kuhlman, stepfather, Harold Kuhlman, and his sister, Mary.
He lived in Grawn and attended St. Mary-Hannah Catholic School in Kingsley.
Geoffrey married his only love, Mary Ellen (Smith), of Traverse City, in 1954 and moved to Grand Rapids to raise a family of five children.
Geoffrey worked as a union sprinkler fitter (UA Local 669) for many years and was proud to have been part of such a fine organization. He was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church for over 40 years and was an avid fisherman, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Geoffrey is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Smith); his children, Gregory (Lynda) Johnson, Cynthia Siersema, Ronald (Robin) Johnson, Steven (Darlene) Johnson and Sharon (William) Cowan; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Doreen and Harold Kuhlman; his brother, Albert Johnson; and his grandsons, Thomas and Curtis Johnson.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1120 Four Mile Road NE, Grand Rapids. A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude Catholic Church.
