George W. Shink passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Sept. 13, 2017.
George was preceded in death by his three younger siblings, Steven (Spike) Shink, Arlene (Pinky) Mancini, and Elizabeth Jesnig Shink. He was born in Detroit, to George and Sylvia Shink on Oct. 31, 1932. After completing high school, he attended Wayne State University, was then drafted into the U.S. Army, served in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. He eventually married Sharon Lee Florkey and was happily married for 60 plus years.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Shink; four daughters, Karen Stebbins, Shelly Robinson, Kelly Rupp, Lynn Stapels; and one son, George M. Shink. He is also survived by his two sisters, Jacqueline Hayes and Christine Buckley; 30 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He always worked hard to provide for his family and held several different jobs that included working for the Millwrights, the Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Traverse City Record-Eagle, vice president of Southgate Sales, and was a very talented carpenter.
George moved his family to Traverse City in 1970 and built a home from the ground up with his father. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.
A private family gathering and celebration of his life will be held by the immediate family.
