Gordon Dale Neihardt, age 70, of Charlevoix, peacefully passed away Nov. 6, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Gordie was born Oct. 20, 1947 in Cadillac. He attended Cadillac High School and Davenport Business College. He dedicated much of his career to implementing 9-1-1 service throughout the United States and retired after 40 years, but maintained an active interest in emergency communications technology. He was an avid fisherman and gear head who loved everything automotive. He enjoyed many building and car projects during his short retirement.
Gordon especially loved music and dancing. He loved to joke and possessed a lightning quick wit which persevered even as he battled cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Diana (Dee LaCross) of 37 years; his mother, Doris Neihardt; his daughters, Jamie Sue (Damon) Carpenter, Jodie Vernette (John) Dodson and Jennifer Ellen (Jay) Hanna; their mother, Andrea Oderkirk Neihardt; grandchildren, Spencer and Payton Carpenter, Brad and Bailey Rosinski, Brady Dodson, Kaitlyn Neihardt and Carmyn Hanna; great-grandchildren, Leroy and Alyanna Rosinski, James John MacDonald, Grace Moore, Adeline Russell, Otto Regnier; and his siblings, Robert (Barbara) Neihardt, Joyce (Chris) Hobbins and Charles (Pam) Neihardt.
He was preceded in death by his sibling, Carol Ann Neihardt; and his father, Dale Neihardt.
A rosary will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lake Leelanau on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at 5 p.m. and a funeral service will be conducted the following day, Friday, Nov. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the same location.
