Grace Haertig Terry

Grace Haertig Terry was born in Woodsboro, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1922 to parents, Ernest and Louise Haertig.
She grew up on the family farm with four brothers, Ernerst, Manfred, Norman and Harlon, and sister, Lillian. They raised and picked cotton and attended the Bonnie View and Woodsboro schools.
Grace attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville, where she met Bill Terry. They were married on Feb. 28, 1948 at the First Methodist Church in Houston.
After graduation during World War II, Grace worked for Humble Oil Company in Houston. Having moved back to Houston, Grace and Bill welcomed their son, Steven in 1956 and their son, Robert in 1959. In 1972 Bill's work took the family to Traverse City, where they lived for 38 years.
Everywhere she lived, Grace loved tending the house and gardening. She was active in Texas and Michigan in garden clubs, serving as president of the Friendly Garden Club of Traverse City.
A faithful Christian all her life, Grace and her family have long-standing roots in the congregation of Faith United Church of Woodsboro. During their years in Michigan, Grace and family were active members of Central United Methodist Church of Traverse City, where she belonged to the Phoebe Circle of United Methodist Women.
Grace moved to the Village at EdenHill Communities in New Braunfels, Texas, in 1996, where she made many friends and contributed much during the remainder of her life. She was a regular participant in weekly chapel services and various community activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her siblings; by her husband, Bill; and by her son, Robert.
She is survived by her son, Steven; and by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Grace was a person much loved and well known for her integrity, her strength of character, her sparkling wit and her loving spirit. She will be much missed by many.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 23 at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St., Traverse City.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to EdenHill Communities, 631 Lakeview Boulevard, New Braunfels, TX 78130.

I am so sorry for your loss, Steven. I loved your Mom. She loved her Lord and Savior. She had such a good sense of humor and quick wit. And so talented! I loved the “tiny rooms” she created and displayed on the wall with miniatures. She also loved red haired dolls, I remember. We met through Scouting when you moved to Traverse City. May God continue to comfort and bless you, Steven.
