Jacen M. Smith Jacen Michael Smith, 33, of Richland, Washington, passed away on Oct. 18, 2018. Jacen was born in Tyler, Texas, on Sept. 7, 1985.
He grew up in Traverse City, where he graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2004. He continued on to pursue a career in the culinary arts.
Jacen was very creative, loved cooking and had a strong passion for the outdoors, particularly fishing. Some of his favorite places to fish while growing up were at his grandparents' house on High Lake, the Boardman River and Mitchel Creek.
Jacen relocated to the Tri-Cities in Washington State in 2008. He continued his career in culinary art, worked as a ranch hand with horses and other livestock and often long boarded along the shores of the Columbian River, where he enjoyed fishing for small mouth bass.
His friends and family were of the utmost importance to him and he was an incredibly loving, generous and loyal young man. He also became a father to Parker Weaver, met his fiancee, Sarah Mayfield, and became an uncle to two nieces, Heidi and Ella Dechant.
He is survived by his mother, Terri (Lee) Morris; father, Michael (Nancy) Smith; sisters, Amanda (Edward) and Melissa (Adam); fiancee, Sarah Mayfield; son, Parker Weaver; nieces and nephew, Heidi and Ella Dechant and Christopher Muller; step siblings, Heidi, Elizabeth, Thomas and Mae Muller, Grant (Kara) Morris and family, Julia (Bryan) Prather and family; and grandmother; Jo Jeffrey.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfathers, Robert Lee Jeffrey and J.B. Jeffrey; and paternal grandparents, Frank "Al" (Patricia) Smith.
A memorial service will be held at West Side Community Church of Traverse City on Nov. 9, 2018 at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be much appreciated to Seattle Children's Hospital of Seattle, Washington, or Safe Harbor of Traverse City.
