Jean Randolph Mahoney, 54, of Thompsonville, died Jan. 26, 2018 at Munson Medical Center.
As a young girl Jean loved 4-H and riding horses. She competitively showed quarter horses with her sister, Ann, and family.
She graduated from Michigan State University in 1986 with a degree in clinical laboratory science.
On June 17, 1989 Jean married the love of her life, Dr. Gerard Mahoney, with whom she raised two children.
She learned the love of sewing from her mother, which led Jean to volunteer at West High School sewing costumes for many high school musicals.
She was a certified cancer exercise specialist and a certified personal trainer. She was the co-founder of the Journey Program, a cancer exercise wellness class. She had 10 years of experience helping clients meet their fitness goals. Her philosophy was to help clients achieve their fitness goals so they can enjoy an active healthy lifestyle.
In the summer of 2017 Jean competed in her first triathlon, winning her age group.
She will be remembered by her family and friends for her devotion to her children, her sense of humor, her competitive spirit and love of games, her unyielding faith, her unwavering determination in the face of physical difficulties and her unmatched kindness and love for others. She will be sincerely missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing her path.
She is survived by husband, Gerard; children, Shannon and Aaron; parents, Bob and Marilyn Randolph; siblings, Robert (Laurie) Randolph and Ann (David) Becker; nieces; and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the First Congregational Church of Traverse City, with Mike Riggins officiating.
