Jean Nickerson

August 19, 1937 - November 21, 2018

Jean Nickerson Jean Marie Nickerson, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2018 from complications of dementia. Jean was born Aug. 19, 1937 in Novi the daughter of Kenneth and Pauline Bassett.
Jean greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking big family dinners and many outdoor activities. She had one of the biggest gardens in the neighborhood. Canning the goods from the garden was one of her biggest passions, which she passed on to her daughters. Jean loved keeping in touch with her friends by phone conversations and sending cards.
She was an active member of the Catholic church St. Mary's of Hannah for 38 years. She loved working the chicken dinners, baking pies and dishes to pass for pot luck.
In 1969 Jean married the love of her life, Norm R. Nickerson. In 1980 she and Norm moved to Kingsley, where they lived out the rest of their years. Jean and Norm spent a large amount of time at their cabin in the Upper Peninsula, whether it was summers at the lake, admiring the fall colors, fishing and hunting or just relaxing by the fire, it was their little piece of heaven.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; her parents, Kenneth and Pauline Bassett; her son, Kenneth Thurman; and sister and brother-in-law, Doug and Sally Dye.
She leaves behind her daughters, Marie Girard, Susan Miller and Norma Munford (Matt); grandchildren, Richard Girard (Sarah), Jordan Edinger, Levi Munford and Zachery Strang; her great-grandchildren, Clayton, Keith, Connor, Richie, Mason and Emma; and many, many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Jean chose to be cremated; her memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's of Hannah Church in Kingsley on Dec. 12 starting at 11 a.m., with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Mary's of Hannah Church or the Dementia Society.
