Jeanne Arlene Dzik, 88, of Lake Ann, passed away at Munson Hospice House on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. She was the daughter of Henry and Shirley Uden, growing up in Monroe.
Jeanne was a public school librarian and teacher for over 30 years in Dearborn. A lifelong adventurer, she visited five continents, 50 states, and nine Canadian provinces. She moved to Benzie County in 1989.
Although fiercely independent, Jeanne always helped others, offering a sympathetic ear, a helping hand, or safe shelter. She served as a secretary of her local teacher's union, a member of the Almira Township Planning Commission, a leader of the local chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America, and a participant in the Benzie Area Women's History Project. She was a member of the Benzie County Democrats and the Universal Unitarian Congregation.
Jeanne is survived by her son, Michael Shea and his wife Maureen McGoorty; grandson, Justin Shea; grandson, Wyatt Shea and his wife Jennifer; great-grandsons, Cody and Dylan Shea; nieces, Delaine Bearden and Joyce Uden; step-daughter, Linda Kingins; faithful basset hound Sophie; and many dear friends.
A celebration of Jeanne's life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, at the Almira Town Hall, 19639 Maple St., Lake Ann.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Benzie County Democratic Party, the Interlochen Library New Building Campaign, or the Father Fred Foundation.
