Jim Murray, of Frankfort, died peacefully on Sept. 9, 2017 at the age of 86. Jim was born to the late Donovan and Alice Murray on March 3, 1931 in Richmond, Virginia.
He graduated from Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.
He married Mary Jane Booth in 1957. They lived 30 years in Birmingham, Michigan, before relocating to the Frankfort area in 1990.
Jim was a spent most of his career working in manufacturing and industrial sales. He worked for Armstrong Flooring Inc., Quality Gasket Manufacturing Company and Raybestos-Manhattan. Eventually Jim started his own business called JWM Associates, where he acted as a manufacturer's representative.
In his retirement he enjoyed volunteering for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN), Interlochen Arts Academy and the USCG Frankfort station.
Jim is survived by his sister, Judith; and by three children, Donald, Robert and Steven. He is also survived by three granddaughters.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at First Congregational Church of Frankfort, with the Rev. Dinah Haag officiating. There will be a light luncheon following the ceremony.
Memorial contributions are welcome and may be made to the Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.
