Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, as the body of Christ, we feel the pain of each member of our community. With sadness in our hearts, but filled with the hope of the resurrection, we would like to announce to you the passing into eternal life of John Alexander Psaros, 86, of Lake City, formerly of Munster, Indiana.
John was born on Jan. 31, 1932 in East Chicago (the Harbor), Indiana, to the late Alexander and Calliope (Giokas) Psaros. John married the love of his life, Donna Dulke, on Sept. 20, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the World War II occupation of Germany.
John was employed as a machinist with Indiana Forge, where he also served as treasurer for the Indiana Forge Credit Union. After moving to Lake City he worked at Lake City Forge until his retirement.
John was a founding member of his beloved church, Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church in Traverse City. He was a member of the VFW Post 6015 in Marion.
John was a former Indiana State High School Wrestling Champion.
He loved his home and yard; his garage was his castle. He always had the best lawn on the block. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing on Crooked Lake. John was a very family-focused man and spending time with his family was his greatest joy.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Donna; two daughters and a son, Karen (Randall) Kain, Linda Nelson and Gregory (Shelly) Psaros. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Hannah Nelson, Nicholas Nelson, Samuel Nelson, Chloe Nelson, Malena Kain and Sage Nelson; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, George Psaros, James Psaros, Gerry Kennedy and Patty Lee.
A funeral service honoring John will take place at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, with visitation starting at 11 a.m., at Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church, 1030 Hastings St., Traverse City. The Rev. Fr. Ciprian Streza will officiate.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund, PO Box 6350, Traverse City, MI 49696.
