John Wesley Trago Sr. passed away on June 26, 2017. He was born June 22, 1937 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Ivan G. and Mildred (Huber) Trago.
He grew up in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, area and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School. He attended Villanova University for one year.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, enjoyed a 23-year career and retired in Empire as a Vietnam vet and Master Sergeant.
While in the military he was stationed on Lookout Mountain in Tennessee, where he met and married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Penley. They enjoyed a long marriage of 58 years.
After retiring John and Virginia had a wonderful life in Empire, where they were active in the church and with the community. They enjoyed hosting weekly euchre parties at their house until John became to ill to continue.
John and Virginia always wanted a large family. Their love resulted in six children.
John Sr. was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Jr. (Shelia Porter), who passed away on May 17, 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Sherry (Devon) Harris, Jerry (Kristy Holiday), Alisa (Jerryl) Nai, Carolyn (Louis) Coomans and Sharon (Mark) Hawkins. His also survived by his baby sister, Cynthia Trago; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at noon, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Empire. Father Zeljko Guberovic will officiate services.
