Joseph J. Cantalupo (Joe) of Traverse City, MI passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the age of 85. Joe was born to parents Nicolas and Margaret (Morrone) Cantalupo on June 14, 1932 in Detroit, MI. He was one of five children and he graduated from Denby High School in Detroit. He joined the Navy and served four years in the Seabees having completed two Mediterranean cruises. He studied Civil Engineering at Wayne State University and the University of Florida.
He married and had four children. Joe is survived by his daughters, Carrie Sharp of Suttons Bay, Pam Norman of Harrisburg, PA, and two sons, Nico of Livingston, MT and Michael of Manhattan, MT seven grandchildren; John Sharp, Audrey Sharp, Thomas Norman, Carly Norman, Gina Cantalupo, Steven Cantalupo and Payden Cantalupo, two sisters; Antoinette Di Laura and Olga Kingery; ex wife and good friend Jackie Cantalupo. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Rose Trott and Margaret Denenberg.
Joe retired from Ford Motor Company in Dearborn Michigan in June of 1990 after 35 years of service as a Safety Engineer. He received a Golden Apple Award from Suttons Bay High school for volunteering as a tutor. Joe enjoyed wood working and made beautiful birdhouses for family and friends. Painting birds was another hobby he was fond of and he found great pleasure in working in his yard and workshop and enjoying a cup of coffee with his many wonderful neighbors.
There will be a Memorial Service later in the spring of 2018. The family is grateful for the condolences and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Outreach 360 or Hospice of Michigan.
