Julius Adolph Nelson Jr., 84, of Bingham Township, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Munson Medical Center. Julius was born on Feb. 27, 1933 in Suttons Bay the son of Julius and Hilma (Larson) Nelson.
Julius graduated Suttons Bay High School and Northwestern Michigan College.
A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army and spent 18 months in France.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Julius traveled to almost every state in the U.S. and many countries, including Europe, Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Julius is survived by his children, James, Michael, Richard (Mary) and Michelle (Dave Trowbridge) Nelson; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) and Katelyn (Cody); great-grandchildren, Benito, Jadyn, Lilah and Colton; a brother, Melvin (Jean) Nelson; a sister, Phyllis Richard; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lena Brown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Trotter; a brother, Albert Nelson; and a daughter-in-law, Dianne Edwards.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with the family greeting friends at 10 a.m., on Monday, Sept. 25, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Suttons Bay. Interment will follow at Suttons Bay Lutheran Cemetery. The Rev. Ruth Overdier will officiate.
