Katherine Bess Brinker, 75, of Traverse City, passed away on Feb. 20, 2018. Katherine was born on Sept. 24, 1942 in Pontiac to her parents, the late Lyle Stanley and Elsie I. (Doan) Bumstead.
She graduated from Fenton High School in 1960 and attended Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.
Katherine taught at Emmerson Middle School in Flint for 10 years and later taught at private schools before opening and managing her bookstore in Charlevoix in the 1980s.
Katherine enjoyed painting, embroidery, reading and solving puzzles.
She is survived by her sister, Joy Alexander; and eight nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Outenwreath in 2016; a brother, Chuck Bumstead in 2016; and "Abby," her favorite cat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at 11 a.m., with visitation held one hour prior, at The First Church of the Nazarene.
Memorial contributions in Katherine's name may be directed to The First Church of the Nazarene.
