Marilyn Joyce Rice, 78, of Beulah, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City with her family by her side. She was born Feb. 2, 1939 in Arcadia, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Johnson) Newberry.
Marilyn worked at Springer's Motel for one year and at Jolly Togs for eight years before moving to the Flint area. Following her marriage to Gerald Rice in 1966 Marilyn worked at Dixie Cleaners as a seamstress for 16 years before retiring in 1993. She moved back to Frankfort in 1994 upon her husband's retirement and opened a sewing business out of her home that she operated for five years. She then moved to Beulah in 2000.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Charles (Linda) Rice, of Byron; her grandchildren, Isaac, Benjamin, Heidi, Lillianna and Samuel; her sisters, Gertrude (Alben), of Elk Rapids, and Deanna Hull, of Traverse City; her brothers, Charles (Jeanne) Newberry, of Elk Rapids, Robert (Arletta) Newberry, of Frankfort, and David (Sharon) Newberry, of Kingsley; and many nieces and nephews.
On July 9, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Flushing, Marilyn married Gerald "Jerry" Rice, who preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Charla Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Homestead Community Church in Beulah, with Pastor James Allred officiating. Interment will follow in Conway Cemetery in Arcadia. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
