MaryEdna Louise Hutchinson, age 93, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at the Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City in the loving care of her family.
MaryEdna Louise Hutchinson dropped her robe of flesh and picked up the shining crowns of her heavenly reward.
Born MaryEdna Louise Jahraus in Cuyahoga, Ohio, near Cleveland, she attended high school (Woodrow) and college in Cincinnati with her family; she also lived in Traverse City in the summers, looking out at East Bay near the peninsula's base. Her mother, Helen (Thurtell), father, Harold A. Jahraus, and brother, Alfred "Bud" Jahraus (wife Jean), all later retired to the Traverse City area.
MaryEdna will be remembered for her quick wit and winning smile, her unconditional love of her family, friends and all she knew.
She had the ability to bring people together in the many different ways that she knew them, through bridge groups, volunteering, community works, special interest and hobbies and church. She volunteered at the Third Level Crisis Center for 10 years, went to community meals, helped with the Safe Harbor program, worked at Miliken's Bargain Basement, worked as a senior companion for 27 years, was involved with Senior Center bridge groups and separate ones, worked at Eagle Village boy's home in Hersey, helped with the Census, sewed and ushered for the Old Town Playhouse, just to name a few of her Traverse City connections.
MaryEdna had a special love for her family, from immediate to shirttail. She went the extra mile to keep in touch, always interested, asking and listening, visiting them near and far she had an ability to make and keep friends of all ages for a lifetime. She was a collector of people who talked to everyone everywhere, and then kept in touch.
Her special love for her family from immediate to shirttail made her beloved by them.
She will be especially missed her four children, William (Bill) Howard Hutchinson Jr. (wife Barb), John Alexander "Al" Hutchinson, Carolyn Jean (Hutchinson) Dole and Douglas James Hutchinson; five grandchildren, Williams James Hutchinson, Kendal and Megan (Seth) Halligan Hutchinson, Nicholas Hutchinson and Jeremy Hutchinson; two great-granddaughters, Alyia Christianson and Dorothy Louise (Dottie) Halligan; two great-grandsons, Will Hutchinson and Tommy Hutchinson; special nieces, Nancy (Stewart) Reed, Michelle Hart (Doug Hart) Jahraus and their families; special friends at Bayview Wesleyan Church and Church Side Village on Center Road.
A special thanks is extended to Barbara Mcnitt, her special friend of 40 years.
A memorial service for Mary Edna will take place at Bayview Wesleyan Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 with a visitation one hour prior.
