Nancy K. Sanborn, age 75, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017 at the Traverse Manor Assisted Living Facility while in the loving care of her husband, Ronald. Nancy was born on Nov. 4, 1941 at Munson hospital in Traverse City to Edward and Vada (Royal) Depky.
Nancy grew up in Traverse City and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1959. After graduating from high school Nancy briefly worked for Michigan Mutual.
On Aug. 27, 1960 Nancy married Ronald Sanborn at St. Francis Catholic Church. Because Ron was in the United States Army, Nancy and Ron moved to Panama, where their first son, Ronald W. Sanborn Jr., was born on May 25, 1962.
Nancy devoted herself to caring for her developmentally challenged son, Shawn, and helped to establish a network of resources for disabled children and their families in Traverse City.
Nancy and Ron loved to travel and most frequented the island of Maui in Hawaii, where they made it their destination getaway eight times throughout their years together.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Ronald; son, Jonathan "Shawn" Sanborn, of Traverse City; daughter, Kimberly S. MacDonnell, of Golden, Colorado; sister, Judith Alters; brother, Gary R. Depky; and grandchildren, McKenzie Sullivan, of Pinedale, Wyoming, and Haley Brogan, of St. Louis, Missouri. Nancy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her good friend, Joyce Sarkon.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Ronald Jr.
In honor of Nancy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held at the Gilbert Lodge at Twin Lakes, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at 1 p.m.
