Richard "Dick"'s Story
Richard "Dick" Sleder, age 66, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 in Traverse City. He was born Nov. 19, 1951 in Traverse City, to George and Patricia (Draper) Sleder.
On May 26, 1972, Dick married the love of his life, Linda Sheldon, in Traverse City. They were married 42 years and together raised two children.
He worked for Olmstead Products and Oilgear, and when he wasn't working, he was designing and building homes for his family. He built several homes to live in and remodeled two others. He also helped build his son's home. Dick enjoyed working and was retired only a few years before his passing.
Dick will be remembered as loving father and husband. He was hardworking and believed in "sweat equity". He enjoyed traveling, old westerns, and automobiles.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristi and her husband, Dave, who was also his dear friend; son, Bryan and his partner, Tanna Short; brother, Steve; and sister, Vickie.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Linda.
A visitation celebrating Dick's life is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
