Richard Clinton Kerr Jr., 58, of Leland, went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2017 at his home with his family and friends by his side.
Clint was born on Aug. 28, 1958 in Ypsilanti to Richard Clinton Kerr and Janet May Kerr. He moved with his family to Leland in 1975 and graduated from Leland High School in 1976.
Clint had a tremendous love for the game of baseball. He played baseball for many years in Leelanau County and for the TC Capitols baseball club. He also played baseball two seasons at Ferris State University, where he was an all-conference center fielder for the Bulldogs. Clint had also attended the University of Arizona, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Clint started his professional career as a police officer working for Leland Township. He served 29 years at the Leelanau County Sheriff's Department. His career included time working for patrol, a D.A.R.E. officer, investigative division detective, narcotics division and finally as a lieutenant over the patrol division.
Clint was a referee for 35 years, where he worked basketball games for high school and college throughout the state of Michigan. Clint was a member of the Sojourn Church in Traverse City, where he used his police officer training by serving on the security team.
Clint is survived by his mother, Janet May Kerr; his children, Richard Clinton Kerr III, Kaitlin (Adam) Rhoades and Kelly (Matthew) Mokanyk; and sisters, Karen (Dale) Inman and Kathy (David) Easter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Clinton Kerr.
Clint was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him including his two best fur pals, Rudy and Bob.
Funeral services will be held at Sojourn Church, July 8, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sojourn Church general fund.
