Robert "Bob" Dopke, 91, of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017 at Culver Meadows.
Bob was born on May 5, 1926 in Winona, Minnesota, to the late Walter A. and Anna (Furkert) Dopke. He married Anne Karen Hagstrom.
Bob honorably served our country during World War II in the Merchant Marines and was in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
After his return from the service he attended the University of Minnesota.
Proudly Bob owned and operated Fawcett-Dopke Insurance Agency and retired in 1994. Once he and Karen retired they summered in Traverse City and spent the winters in Arizona.
Bob was a member of the Blue Goose, the Car and Nut Club, Newcomers, the Yacht Club and the Country Club. Also, Bob was a member and former president of the Traverse City Rotary Club.
In his spare time he enjoying sailing, skiing, golfing and gardening.
Surviving Bob are his wife of 57 devoted years, Karen; daughter, Lisa (Pete) Dopke LaCourse; son-in-law, Steve (Nina) Merten; grandchildren, Soren, Logan, Landon LaCourse, Christopher and Cassidy Merten; his sister, Mildred MacGregor; his beloved cat, Smokey; and many other loving family members and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robin Merten; son, John H. Dopke; and his sister, Edith Jessie.
A memorial service for Bob will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
