Robert's Story

Robert L. Henning, 77, of Honor, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
For 34 years, Robert worked at Marion Power Shovel Company in Marion, Ohio, manufacturer of large mining equipment and the crawlers to transport rockets to the launch pad at Cape Kennedy/Canaveral. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Morral Salt Rock Township in Ohio for many years and a longtime member of The Compassionate Friends.
Robert was blessed with many gifts, talents and skills engaging in many different projects that kept him busy. He spent countless hours helping the residents in his neighborhood, both in Ohio and after moving to Michigan in 2000, especially widows, with indoor and outdoor maintenance.
Robert always accepted and appreciated what he had without complaining. He was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church serving two terms on Vestry and six years as Jr. Warden. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his children, Scott in 1984, Julie Henning Jones in 1997, and Melinda "Mindy" Henning in 2008.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley; daughter, Polly J. Kramer (Cass Mather); grandchildren, Jennifer, Alyssa, and David Jones, and their father and stepmother Cliff and Judy Jones, Andrew and Cory Kramer; four great-grandchildren; brother, Gary (Cheryl) Henning; sister, Lee Ann Pinnell; several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Also surviving is Tom Bresko, fiance of Mindy at the time of her death.
A funeral service will be held at St. Philip's Episcopal Church on May 26, 2018 at 2 p.m.
