Robert W. "Bill," "Bob," "R.W." Sanders passed on Feb. 21, 2018 after a courageous and long fight with cancer.
Born on Nov. 13, 1942 in Detroit to Robert and Lillian (Mathey) Sanders, the family moved to Mancelona in 1948, where they owned and operated the Club 131 for 25 years.
Bill graduated from Mancelona High School in 1961 then attended Michigan State University and Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City.
He is survived by three children, Anthony R. Sanders, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jill Ann Sanders, of Mancelona, and Deana M. Bushard, of Greenville; also his grandson, Drake Skowronski, of Gaylord; longtime friend and companion, Darlene Sexton, of Bellaire and Estero, Florida; his sister, Laura McMillin, and brother-in-law, Mark McMillin, of Otsego; and three nieces and one nephew, all living in Michigan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and the mother of his children, Judith K. Sanders.
Bill was a high school football official for 45 years and retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 25 years of service. Bill was also a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on both coasts and overseas.
