Robert "Bob" Wylie, 76, of Traverse City, died April 17, 2017 in Cheboygan.
Bob was born on June 13, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Ian and Mary (Westerbrook) Wylie. He was raised in Chicago and went to work with the Chicago City Police.
In November 1965 Bob married the former Eleanor Leo at the St. Michaels Church in Suttons Bay. The two made their home in Chicago for a time before moving to Traverse City in 1975. On Sept. 3, 1984 Eleanor lost her battle with cancer, and Bob raised his two sons as a single father.
In 1985 He went to work for the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department and proudly served the people of that community until his retirement in 2000.
Bob loved traveling and taking his two sons musky fishing on the Eagle River in Wisconsin. He was a past president of Make a Wish Foundation in Traverse City, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Bob had a large personality with the talent of making people laugh. He also had a huge heart, would do anything for anyone in need and was truly one of the best men ever.
He is survived by two sons, David (Martha McCort) Wylie, of Traverse City, and Eric (Tammy) Wylie, of Petoskey; and by a grandson, Max McCort.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor; and by a brother, David.
A service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at the Interlochen Eagles Club.
Donations in Bob's memory may be directed to Hospice of the Straits.
Arrangements are in the care of the Stone Funeral Home of Petoskey.
