Roger graduated from Traverse City High School in 1949.
After high school Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at various posts, including Hawaii, as a reconnaissance aircraft photographer.
Following his military service Roger attended the University of Michigan for engineering before completing his bachelor's degree in social sciences at San Diego State University and later a master's degree in education. He also studied for his doctorate in education at the University of South California.
Roger worked for Grossmont Union School District for over 25 years. While there he was a teacher, a guidance counselor and finally an administrator. After his retirement he worked for a time as an administrator for San Diego County.
Roger loved fly fishing and downhill skiing. He was an avid reader, and he would take meticulous notes as if he was about to teach what he had just learned. He was extremely knowledgeable, and Roger enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others.
Roger was a loving father who guided his children throughout their lives with his knowledge and understanding of so many aspects of life and the world. He enjoyed Christmases at his daughter's and visits from his son as he proudly showed the beauty of Northwest Michigan. He will be greatly missed.
