Roger Robert Round, 88, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home in the Slabtown neighborhood of Traverse City.
Roger was born on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 1928 to the late Richard and Marion (Topinka) Round in Traverse City, the third generation of his family to live and be raised in Slabtown. His ancestors were the founders of the Traverse City Iron Works as well as the East Jordon Iron Works. Roger graduated from school here and on Saturday, June 17, 1950, he married Dorothy Mae Dreves at St. Francis Catholic Church.
Dorothy and Roger owned and operated West Bay Laundry and Cleaning for many years. In his retirement, he enjoyed working in his gardens, was a dedicated viewer of the Hallmark Channel and the program Castle and particularly, was dedicated to, and enjoyed, being with his family.
Roger was a longtime member of the Eagles.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Mary) Round, of Traverse City, Karen (Walter) Babcock, of Hancock, and Maryellen Phillips, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Rosner, of Aquadilla. Puerto Rico, Emily Round, of Traverse City, Zachary (Claire) Babcock, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacob Babcock, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bryan (Amy) Pritchard, of Napa Valley, California, and Hanna Pritchard, of Traverse City; and his great-grandchildren, Lillian "Lilly" Pritchard, Beaudine Pritchard and Norah Rosner.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on March 27, 2015; by his son-in-law, Steve Phillips; sister, Joanne (Robert) Murphy; brothers, Richard Round and Franklin "Bud" (Dorothy) Round; as well as his parents.
A graveside service to honor Roger and Dorothy will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. The Rev. Father Anthony Cipro will officiate.
