Sister Judith's Story
Sister Judith Kirt, OP, formerly known as Sister Dennis Marie, of Grand Rapids, born in Lake Leelanau, died on April 8, 2018. She was 79 years old and a Dominican Sister for 61 years.
Sister Judith served as a teacher and in some instances as principal at SS. Peter & Paul, Saginaw; Sacred Heart, Mt. Pleasant; Beaver Island; St. Francis, Traverse City; Muskegon Catholic Central; and St. Michael, Brunswick. She was a dedicated teacher. Sister Judith became a certified histology technician and spent summers in the lab at St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw. She also received training in podiatry.
Sister Judith enjoyed woodworking, photography, gardening, the outdoors and reveled in the beauty of God's creation with gratitude.
Sister Judith is survived by her sister, Patricia (Patrick) Gardner; her brother, Michael (Barb) Kirt, of Lake Leelanau; her sister, Rebecca "Becky" Kirt, of Hay Market, Virginia; nieces, nephews and many friends; and members of her Dominican Sisters - Grand Rapids Community.
Sister Judith's funeral Mass was celebrated April 12 at Dominican Chapel/Marywood in Grand Rapids.
Memorials in Sister Judith Kirt's name may be made to the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters Health Care Fund.
