Steven Maten Jr., age 88, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017. He was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Detroit, to Steven Sr. and Elizabeth (Niederlof) Maten.
Steven graduated in 1947 in Detroit. He worked as a machinist for his uncle, Kovus, followed by working for his father in a cabinet shop and later went on to do carpentry and fire repair work in Elk Rapids. He loved Northern Michigan and relocated to Williamsburg in 1985.
His passions included spending time with his family, fishing on lake Michigan and following NHL hockey teams.
Steven is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann (Brown) Maten; his brother, Gary (Cheryl) Maten; his children, Michael (Carol) Maten, Beth (Jim) Davis, John (Joan) Maten, Steven (Terri) Maten and Sue Bertrand; seven grandchildren; plus two step grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; and son-in-law, Joe Bertrand.
Private family services will be held.
Memorial donations in memory of Steven Maten may be made to Munson Hospice House.
