Susanna Vazsonyi-Hirt, 75, of Küsnacht, Switzerland, passed away April 1, 2019 while surrounded by her three children.
Susi was born on Jan. 11, 1944 in Küsnacht to the late Walter and Heidi (Moor) Hirt. She married Gabor Vazsonyi, of Budapest, Hungary, on Feb. 15, 1964 in Traverse City, both having immigrated from Switzerland to the United States to start their life together.
She completed her compulsory schooling in Küsnacht, followed by an apprenticeship in medical supply sales and schooling in Zürich, where she met her husband of 40 years. Later, she worked part-time in a jewelry store downtown Traverse City and in one located in St. Gallen, Switzerland, over the course of 15 years, something she thoroughly enjoyed.
Susi was a dedicated mother and wife, first of foremost, treasuring her own three children and later her seven grandchildren, located both in Switzerland and the United States. She was the kind and compassionate surrogate mother to many study tour students, college and high school age, starting in the late 1960s, that accompanied her and her husband to Europe from the United States, vice versa, and around Europe from Switzerland.
While residing in Trogen, Switzerland, in the 1970s, she started the first impromptu school bus service (where none existed), with her own car, collecting impoverished farm children residing in remote areas of the village who had hour-long walks to school. She volunteered to be the advocate and social worker to women who needed a voice and someone to care for and about them while residing in Trogen. Most recently, she was very active in the local church choir and participated in women's sports club, both in Küsnacht, where she recently returned to after nearly 40 years in the Appenzellerland, and participated in study tours to Russia, France and Germany.
She was very kind, considerate and thoughtful to all who knew her, loved by so many.
She was the beloved mother of Alexander, of Richmond, Kentucky, Gabriel (Cornelia), of Galgenen, Switzerland, and Timea (Thomas), of Aesch, Switzerland; as well as the very proud and dedicated grandmother and "Nani" of Alexander, Fabio, Philip, Marc, Katarina, Alisha and Malea.
She is survived by her elder brother, Paul, of Roy, Washington; and was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Gabor.
She leaves an unmeasurable void to all that remain, she was the fabric that bound us, and she will be very sorely missed.
Her life will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. in the Reformierte Kirche in Küsnacht, Switzerland, on June 28, 2019, preceded by her burial at 10:45 a.m.
