Thomas Edward Weir, age 88, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Munson Hospice House in the loving care of his family. Thomas was born to Harry and Hilda (Pollack) Weir on May 5, 1929 in Syracuse, New York.
Thomas honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
In 1954 Thomas married his wife of 52 years, Lois Marie Paul in LaGrange, Indiana. Tom and Lois resided in Lansing, where Tom worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. After retiring from the post office Tom worked for Avis as a driver for 20 years.
Tom and Lois loved to travel; they traveled to all 50 states and enjoyed two trips overseas. Tom moved to Traverse City in 2011 to be close to his daughters.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Sherry Weir, Debbie (Steve) Westphal and Wendy (Dave) Lang, all of Traverse City; and grandchildren, Joslyn Westphal, Jordan, Yestah and Chase Meske, Angela and Ava Weir, Regina, Robert Jr. and Fabienne Lorraine, and Brandy, Candy and Sandy Pahl. Thomas is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, including Lennox Olivia; his brother, Jerry (Sally) Weir; brothers-in-law, Leonard, Jerry and Jack; sister-in-law, Cora; and many nieces and nephews.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; sister, Donna Lambright; and stepchildren, Penny Pahl and Robert Lorraine.
A visitation for Thomas will take place on Tuesday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
