Vincent's Story

Vincent A. Fochtman, age 93, of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Traverse City, died March 28, 2017 at Naples Community Hospital with family at his side.
Vincent was born in Petoskey on April 30, 1923, the son of Eugene Fochtman and Susan McLean.
He married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Hess, on Oct. 14, 1946. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with many of their family members.
After graduating from Petoskey High School he entered World War II, serving honorably in the U.S. Army in Germany and England.
He then attended Michigan State University, graduating in 1950.
Vincent was president of Fochtman Motor Company, with 13 locations throughout northern Michigan, until his retirement.
Vincent was a man of strong faith, family and community involvement. He served as president of numerous organizations, Traverse City Chamber of Commerce (Distinguished Citizen of the Year 1965), Michigan Automotive, Traverse City Optimist Club (founding member), Industrial Fund, Park Place Hotel, ASIA-Automotive Service Industry Associates and NAW-National Association of Wholesalers. He served on the boards of Munson Medical Center and Michigan National Bank and was general chairman of March of Dimes campaign. Vincent served as city commissioner and was mayor of Traverse City in 1967. Vincent was very involved at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, serving on the finance board, as an extraordinary minister and as president of the Men's Club. He was past president of the N.W. Michigan Catholic Layman's Retreat and attended annually for over 60 years.
Vincent enjoyed spending time with his family and golfed until a few years ago.
He was preceded in death by his son, Fritz; sisters, Adele Foreman and Gertrude Maus; and brothers, Edward and Donald.
He leaves his wife, Charlotte; and four sons, Vincent E. (Carolyn), Donald E. (Kay O'Malia), John (Theresa) and Daniel (Karin Sylvester); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place per his wishes. A memorial service will be held in Traverse City at a later date to be announced.
