Virginia P. Olds

September 09, 1932 - October 07, 2018

Virginia Pauline (Clous) Olds, 86 of Kingsley, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 7, 2018 with loved ones by her side. Virginia was born Sept. 9, 1932 in Kingsley, to the late Clarence and Anna (Rodes) Clous. She married Lafayette Olds on Nov. 6, 1948 and together they had 10 children. Lafayette passed away in 1971 and Virginia married Donald Fashbaugh on Sept. 16, 1978.
Virginia was very civic minded and involved in the community. She had served on the Kingsley School Board, followed her father, Clarence in serving as a Grand Traverse County commissioner representing the citizens of the southern part of the county with zest and compassion. She was a member of the DHS Board, Grand Traverse Pavilions Board, and Commission on Aging Board. In 2006, she was honored at the National Cherry Festival as Senior of the Year. Virginia loved 4-H and was leader of the Walnut Acres Club for years. She was a lifelong member of the Hannah St. Mary's Church. She was also the recipient of the Robert P. Griffin award in 2014.
Family meant everything to Virginia. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her death will leave a huge void in our family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lafayette Olds; siblings, Maxine Revett and Eugene Clous.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Fashbaugh; her children, Richard (Althea) Olds, Joyce Olds, Victoria (Dean) Edgecomb, Thomas (Cheryl) Olds, Ann (Kim) Morin, Janet (Allen) Sieffert, James Olds (Angie Smith), Timothy (Ronda) Olds, Carol (Steven) Stocking, Karen Zenner (Dean Domnoske); stepchildren, David (Patty) Fashbaugh, Kelly (Ed) Crain; sisters, Vonnie Travis, Kathy Ritter and Paulette Long; 28 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary of Hannah Church in Kingsley, Fr. Gerald Okali officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time Mass. Interment will be in St. Mary of Hannah Cemetery.

My sister Virginia lived life to the fullest. She was the epitome of “if you want something done ask a busy person”. I wish I could have been there to say my final goodbye but I was a day to late. She is now with our dear Mother and Father and Maxine and Eugene and she now has the peace of Christ in her.

Your Mom was always in the stands at every sporting event. We could count on her cheering for us and she would set the refs straight when they strayed from the truth! She will be missed, but she leaves a wonderful legacy in her children.

Virginia Olds was one of a kind, and loved by so many for so many reasons. One of the memories that sticks in my mind is of a few years ago at the Fair when she had not seen me for years, but knew exactly who I was. A precious soul and a great sport. Love to you Carol and the whole family.
So sorry for your loss. Awesome lady. Wonderful family.

Virginia was a special sister-in-law. She and my brother were truly made for each other and enjoyed a long and happy marriage. My sympathies go out to the whole family and especially my brother, Don Fashbaugh, who loved her dearly.

So very sorry to hear of this tremendous loss. Virginia's considerable contributions to our community are matched by few, and greatly appreciated. Her sense of humor and tenacity were always things I enjoyed observing during BOC meetings; especially when she was right, as she usually was.

With no agenda other than Love, Virginia and Nub opened their home to this single, new teacher/coach in my first year at KHS for some fantastic fellowship and meals. That was the beginning of a lifetime experience of true and sincere friendship for me and later, Amy, the twins and Cathy. Memories as a coach and even a “visiting referee” with Virginia in the stands brings a smile to my lips even now. She knew how to get involved in “the game”. I bless God for having the privilege to call Virginia a friend, a mentor and “Mom” at the same time in my teaching, newlywed and parenting career In Kingsley. She was an inspiration to my Amy in so many ways. May her faithfulness and light ...forJesus continue to shine bright through all of us left behind knowing that some day, when our temporary journey on earth ends, we will see her again in Heaven, for the Bible tells us so. God’s peace be upon “you 10 kiddos and your families.” You are loved and appreciated. Jim/CoachRead more

Prayers for the entire family on the loss of your Mother. She was a wonderful woman and a huge supporter of the Kingsley Community. If you went to school at Kingsley you had an Olds in your class. I was fortunate to have two amazing guys in mine-Jim & Tim! Hugs to you all~
